The SouthEast Building Training, Research, and Assessment Center (SEBTRAC), established through a $900,000 federal grant under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is a pioneering initiative by the University of Miami College of Engineering in collaboration with regional and national stakeholders. SEBTRAC aims to advance research, education, and workforce development in energy efficiency across South Florida and Puerto Rico. With a focus on clean energy innovation, the center will deploy advanced data analytics and machine learning to optimize energy use in commercial, institutional, and community-serving buildings. Its mission includes identifying opportunities to reduce energy waste, improve building productivity, and enhance environmental performance. Additionally, SEBTRAC will create cutting-edge tools, technologies, and training programs to upskill energy professionals and prepare them for in-demand roles in clean energy sectors. Through partnerships with organizations like Florida Atlantic University, Universidad Ana G. Méndez, and the Community Dreams Foundation, SEBTAC also emphasizes inclusivity, fostering opportunities for underrepresented and minority groups while addressing regional challenges in sustainability and climate resilience. By combining research, education, and practical application, the center is poised to significantly impact energy efficiency practices and workforce readiness in the region.
